Beer Brewing Equipment

Beer brewing equipmentWhether you buy a beer making kit or prefer to buy your beer brewing equipment separately, you'll need some equipment. Here is the main homebrew equipment items you'll need to brew your own beer at home. While most the items are essential some may not be absolutely necessary, but they are still worth mentioning.

  • AIRLOCK - to allow gas out of the fermenter & stop air getting in.
  • BEER INGREDIENT KIT - The ingredients for your first batch. They come in a can & are supplied with yeast. All you have to do is add a good quality brewing sugar & water.
  • BOTTLE BRUSH - a great help for cleaning bottles.
  • BREWING SUGAR - It makes much better beer than white sugar often recommended on beer kits. You need 1kg to make a regular strength beer.
  • CAPPING TOOL & CROWN SEALS - to seal each bottle.
  • CARBONATION DROPS - added to each bottle before sealing to make the beer gassy.
  • CLEANER - to remove residues from all your brewing containers & tools. Usually Campden tablets or Milton.
  • FERMENTING CONTANER - This is the container in which the beer is allowed to ferment.
  • HYDROMETER - for testing your beer to see if fermentation is finished & for measuring alcohol.
  • PLASTIC STIRRER - for mixing your brewing ingredients.
  • STERILIZER - to prevent contamination. Usually a crushed Campden tablets suffices.
  • TAP & BOTTLING VALVE - for getting beer into the bottles.
  • THERMOMETER - to monitor the temperature of your fermenting beer.
