Liquer/spirit recipe: Strawberry Liquer

Taste the essence of distilled stawberry! A nice balance of alcohol and fruit, this provides a delicious after-dinner drink.

The following ingredient quantities are based on 1 litre(s) of spirit being made.

lemons 1 fruit(s) Zest and juice
Orange 1 fruit(s) Zest only
Strawberries 250 gram(s) Impotant: Only clean, ripe, but perfectly unblemished fruit with stalks removed should be used.
sugar 30 gram(s)
Vodka 0.5 litre(s) (Brandy and rum are potential alternatives)
Water 0.25 litre(s)

Instructions

  1. Mash the strawberries in a bowl, then stir in the sugar and leave to stand for an hour.
  2. Add vodka, water, orange zest, lemon zest and juice. Now store thoroughly.
  3. Put in an airtight container and place in a cool, dark place for 2 days. Shake several times.
  4. Now strain off the fruit with a fine mesh into another airtight container and again put in a cool dark place to allow the remining liquor to settle.
  5. Finally rack off to remove all sediment and leave the finished liquer in a sealed bottle.
  6. Mature for 4-6 weeks. Taste and add more sugar to taste if required, shaking for a day or two to dissolve and then leaving to mature a little more each time.
